At our first meeting back in November 2003 we had a list of things to check to see if we could improve on Waste Minimisation. Back to topSCHOOL OFFICE
We went to see Mrs Harvie to see if she re-uses envelopes, photocopies on both sides of paper and other things like that. Mrs Harvie said that we did everything on the list except send letters home via E.Mail. we have been recycling our old printer cartridges and old moblie phones with a company called Collect 4 Schools. They send us a cheque for all the cartridges we collect and we have used the money to buy bulbs and seeds for the garden. Our home grown produce this year was amazing! Back to topCOMPOST
The other person we interviewed was Ann, the school cook. We asked her if we could have the peelings from her vegetables for the school garden compost heaps. She agreed. Since then we go down and collect the peelings and take them to the compost. Back to topRE-USING PAPER
We have asked Mrs Harvie in the secondary office and all the teachers to save their wasted printer paper. We gave them boxes to store it in, then we look at it and decide if we can make it into little booklets for the wee ones to play with at playtimes. Back to topSHREDDING PAPER
The paper we think is too messy is shredded. We asked Liz if we could have the shredder in our classroom to make it easier. When we get a bagful we give it to people for their guinea-pigs Reece and Rosalind are our best customers! Back to topCARDBOARD
Our cardboard recycling has been so successful that Oakbank Services have given us a skip free of charge. They are having to empty it more and more frequently as every body in the village is using it too! We feel really proud that we were able to take the lead in the cardbord recycling in our village. We have our own recycling centre now. Mrs Brown bought us a set of really cool bins and we put eyes on them they look like little robots. Each one has something stuck on the top:a can, a crisp packet, a "Hungry Horse" fruit tub, a plastic bottle, and a newspaper. They look brilliant. Back to topWASTE MINIMISATION GROUP
We think we have been quite successful so far. We are really enjoying being part of the Eco Committee.Rhea P6, Samantha P7, Rosie P7 Back to top
